What is ProFleet2 ?
It is an award winning vehicle servicing facility, only available through ALD Automotive, allowing companies and drivers to benefit from a whole host of features. The service is facilitated by the ProFleet2 telematics unit which has QS9000 accreditation and is fitted into all ALD funded vehicles delivered from Spring 2004.
 
What is telematics?
In its simplest definition it is "an instrument that measures a quantity and signals the results to a distant point" and can vary from anything from a car radio picking up an FM frequency to GPS satellite navigation. ProFleet2 is not a tracking unit and does not have GPS capability.
 
What are the benefits of ProFleet2 ?
For both companies and their drivers the key ones are the pro-active notification of vehicle services becoming due and the on-line automated journey logging facility available exclusively for drivers.
 
How does it work?
The ProFleet2 unit is fitted with a SIM card and via this ALD receive fortnightly odometer readings directly from the vehicle's engine management system. This information is automatically input into our fleet management software and compared with the manufacturer's servicing intervals to determine how soon the next service is due.
From contact data supplied by the driver on registering for ProFleet2 ALD would advise the driver 2 months or 2000 miles prior to a service being due. With mapping screens used by ALD's fleet service controllers and pre-determined driver preferences we would notify the driver of the most convenient arrangement for them i.e. home or office collection, courtesy car facility, preferred garage, etc.

A simple authorisation reply to any text message or fax, etc would be communicated to the driver and relevant garage confirming the arrangement booked, a process from start to finish that need take no more than a few seconds to complete !
By utilising 'STD Codes', as within any mobile phone, it can record mileage events and journey logs - albeit only for access by the driver !
 
What is an STD Code?
An 'STD Code' is telephone exchange code allocated to all towns and regions in the UK, eg. London has a code of (0207 and 0208) and Bristol has a code of (0117).
 
Can anybody access the driver's personal vehicle records?
No. Only the driver has access to their driving records; if they wish others to see journey logs, etc they will have to grant authorisation and pass on their password details.
 
Can any cars benefit from ProFleet2 ?
Only ALD Automotive funded vehicles delivered after Spring 2004, for agreements over 12 months in length, have the unit fitted as standard. If compatible, other ALD cars and those owned by your company can have the unit fitted retrospectively at additional cost. Whilst there are no implications to vehicle warranties, etc you may need to seek the permission of another leasing company should you wish to benefit from this service with one of their vehicles.
 
Will the ProFleet2 unit interfere with any of the vehicle's controls?
No. The unit has been designed to "plug and play" and has the advantage of not being an interference fit with the vehicles' systems.
 
Data Protection?
The only data held by ALD is the cumulative mileage reading of the car upon which the pro-active service notification depends.

ALD Automotive complies with the principles of the UK Data Protection legislation. Personal information supplied by you will only be used for the purposes provided and will not be passed to any third party without your prior consent.

Why might mileages on the website differ from my vehicle?
We calculate the mileage on the ProFleet2 unit to within 1% accuracy of the actual distance travelled by the vehicle. Manufacturers are not obligated to record mileages within a set tolerance, and therefore there may be a different mileage reading on the odometer in your vehicle.
